I originally hoped to see xdtv included in Ubuntu (and Debian) because it was the best solution for analogue (v4l(2)) video capture under Linux I know of. However, analogue video capture alone is a pretty small niche of users who would be interested in using xdtv but, after days of failed experimentation trying to set up a MP4 video streaming server and getting nowhere with both vlc and mpeg4IP (mp4live), I thought I would try xdtv and to my delight I had it streaming DVD res xvid MP4 streams @ 25fps w/ uncompressed audio over my LAN straight away with no tricky configuration or experimentation. I didn't get vlc to stream at all (under Linux or Windows), mp4live would only ever stream video or sound but not both at once, and the only other Linux option I know of would have been to set up ffserver which looks like a non-trivial task.
Hence, anybody wanting an easy to configure, 100% FOSS video streaming solution need look no further than the README.streaming included in the xdtv source tarball- 2.4.0 compiled without prob for me under Intrepid x64. vlc may be useless (or just damn difficult) for a streaming server but it does make a good cross-platform streaming client for use with xdtv. Also, when I originally requested xdtv be included in the Ubuntu repos it was a 'dead' project but according to the xawdecode site a company has took interest in picking up development and so all this means I have renewed interest in seeing xdtv make it into the repos. -- [needs-packaging] xdtv aka xawdecode https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/155764 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
