I received the same warning today in KDE, exactly as the original poster
noted.

As with the original poster, I found the directions unclear, and had to
use the asoundconf list command, which was not in the warning, to find
out the name of the sound card, and then re-run the command with that
name appended to the end of the command.

If this is going to be displayed, can the directions be clarified so
that we don't have to read the manual and try to interpret what was
meant by the error?

I'm also unclear as to why this was necessary. That might be useful for
people who are being asked to run through this set of instructions.
