Public bug reported: Binary package hint: compiz
Compiz draws garbage to the screen. For a few seconds I can still move the cursor but nothing reacts when I click (buttons, menus, ...). Then the mouse pointer itself freeze and I have to reboot the hard way. I can't figure out a 100% method to reproduce this bug, as it happens randomly, but I can say that this happens when compiz is about to draw a new window. The area to be drawn is then filled with garbage. I think the problem comes from compiz because it doesn't happens when desktop effects are disabled.
