Public bug reported:

This is a refile of Bug #280625
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-terminal/+bug/280625).

I do not know which part of GTK is causing the problem, so I file it
against the gtk-demo application (package gtk2.0-examples).

To reproduce:
Open gtk-demo, open the "Assistant" demo and type a backspace into the text
box. The internal PC speaker (also known as "beep") rings instead of the
expected Ubuntu notification sound configured in the sound settings.

This bug affects many applications (all that use GTK) such as Firefox
(->search) Thunderbird(->new email), instant messengers and so on.

(System: fully updated Ubuntu 8.10)

** Affects: gtk+2.0 (Ubuntu)
     Importance: Undecided
         Status: New
