  System : Ubuntu Intrepid
  Monitor : 24" LCD with DPMS support
  Driver : fglrx (from packages)
  GPU : ATI AIW X800 VE (R420)
  
  Steps to reproduce :
  - Open a desktop session : screen resolution is 1920x1200
  - Power off the monitor. Power it on
  -> The screen remain black wheras the monitor is on
  - Switch to first console (Ctrl+Alt+F1)
  -> The screen correctly display the 640x480 image
  - Switch back to X session  (Ctrl+Alt+F7)
  -> The screen display the top left part of the image (the size is about 
160x80)
  - Open a terminal (Alt+F2)
  - $ xrand --size 640x480
  -> The screen correctly display the 640x480 image
  - $ xrand --size 1920x1200
  -> The screen correctly display the 1920x1200 image. Notice that this command 
didn't do anything if the size wasn't previously switch to a different size 
(xrand seems to know that it was using 1920x1200)
