this becomes truly tiresome. I would really appreciete some input on how to further pin this down, as there is a lot of variation in the symptoms, but some things remain constant.
this time it freed up, after switching consoles. occasionally that will happen, and sometimes it will free up when I kill seemingly random processess. (but 90% of the time, it will not free up no matter what I kill) the chance of it freeing up seems to be related to whether the screen if fully drawn. many times, various unidentifiable parts of the screen are grey. I am almost certain this has something to do with hal and/or alsa stuff. this because of the odd behavior with console switching, and stopping at the end of track. generally it seems playback will continue when logged-in vts are visible, though this time, there was no audio on any console, until I switched back to X, which then unfroze. however, I have been trying to find something in output of hal, and even though it did free up, I still see these messages at the end about "Emmitting ACLRemoved for udi [various alsa stuff]" (attached). not using that usb device, doesnt seem to have anything to do with it. please let me know something else useful to try. ** Attachment added: "hald.log" http://launchpadlibrarian.net/24297410/hald.log -- X stops responting/updating, console switching still works https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/338495 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list [email protected] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
