OK, I'm going to bow out of this one. My laptop goes down to about 75% after 6 days in hibernate or shutdown; - so I think there was a fix in probably at the 2.6.27 transition ago that made the difference where it didn't lose most of it overnight and didn't end up flat in the middle of the week, but then I guess the rest of the difference might just be my laptop - and in the mean time my laptop is now 2 years old so it could be battery age now.
