ATI/AMD is providing support for R5xx cards through the open-source -ati/-radeon driver. This bug, "fglrx does not support xserver 1.6", has now been fixed, so please don't spam it with discussions and debugging. File new bug reports for issues that you have, against fglrx-installer if your using fglrx, and against xserver-xorg-video-ati if you are using -ati/-radeon.
