I have found a work around which I use now:

If I switch of the Wifi card with the switch on the laptop (physical
switch) and then unplug the powercord and then switch on the wifi card
again, everything works fine!!!!! Whether the powercord is inserted or
not when switching the Wifi card on again.

Not sure what this means, but apparently the kernel disables something
when the switch is turned of and then the whole powercord event does not
trigger the problem.
