Well Bryce,

i'm a novice end user, not a technician.

As an end user i guess the bug report has enough info to start 
investigating into two directions:

   1. is there - probably for very valid reasons - a piece of SW in
      X-org which does perform a screen splitting?
   2. (/more important/) is there a way to get rid of the splitted
      screen and come back to a monoscreen? Should i have found this
      escape i would not even report the screen split as a bug, the
      *real bug* for an end user like me is not having an easy way to
      solve it (/maybe it's there and i don't know/)
