here are the info you requested, relative to 2.6.24-19 (last good for
hardy), 2.6.24-24 (your latest build) and 2.6.27-11 (intrepid current).

Your analysis is very accurate.  I'm sorry for not noticing the missing
core in the 2.4.24-19 kernel.  that would have made things much easier.
