** Summary changed: - Kino (0.9.0) defaults to use /dev/raw1394 but Ubuntu uses /dev/dv1394/0 + Kino (0.9.2) Dapper backport defaults to use /dev/dv1394/0 but Ubuntu Dapper uses /dev/dv1394-0
** Description changed: Binary package hint: kino This is a configuration and usability bug, not a functional bug. - The default device configuration in Kino for accessing IEEE1394 - (firewire) is /dev/raw1394. In Ubuntu for many reason, not least - security, raw1394 cannot be accessed for normal users, and is - discouraged in most cases for root. Ubuntu uses instead /dev/dv1394/0 - which has slightly less functionality (can't access A/V controls on - video cameras) but is much safer. - - So... the Ubuntu package (if not kino in general) should default to use - /dev/dv1394/0. If any was feeling really helpful they could submit a + Kino (0.9.2) Dapper backport defaults to use /dev/dv1394/0 should + default to use /dev/dv1394-0 as there are no /dev/dv1394/0 in Ubuntu + 6.06 (Dapper). If any was feeling really helpful they could submit a patch to kino which would search for the presence of /dev/dv1394/0 - (/dev/dv1394-0). But for now I'm calling this an Ubuntu usability bug. + (/dev/dv1394-0). ** Changed in: kino (Baltix) Importance: Undecided => Medium Assignee: (unassigned) => Mantas Kriaučiūnas Status: Rejected => Confirmed Target: None => dapper -- Kino (0.9.2) Dapper backport defaults to use /dev/dv1394/0 but Ubuntu Dapper uses /dev/dv1394-0 https://launchpad.net/bugs/67818 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
