I had the same problem. Rebooting did not fix it. I discovered the repair by left clicking on the desktop and selecting "Change desktop background". I then clicked the "Visual Effects" icon. I clicked the radio button called "None" to remove all my tricked out settings. That fixed it but I wanted my Cube settings back. I then clicked "Extra" on that same page. Now, all is well.
