i have a sony vaio laptop, whith an Intel 4500MHD card, and i had the same problem. I fixed my xorg.conf in the same way as described above.
I just runned the test reconfigure test and the problem is still there ... i get a vesa line on the new xorg.conf. when i installed originally, a couple of months ago, i did directly from iso image.
