The problem has been resolved with one of the Ubuntu updates. I recently downloaded a few updates from Ubuntu. On re-booting the computer, the screen showed "Automatic correction" and a bar which 'grew' from Left to right (0 to 100%). My Wallpaper had shrunk & I guessed I the resolution had improved. On checking 'System' then 'Preferences' & then 'Screen Resolution' it was '1024*768 (4:3). Instead of 800*600. Now the graphics are great.
