It is still present and I actually cannot find any application on my computer which does NOT steal the focus no matter which program I am using. This happens in both metacity and compiz. And I agree that this really is an issue and should be resolved. Why not just having the newly opened window flashing in the task bar? This is even a security issue because it happens quite often that you type a password into a password field and some focus-stealing app takes at least part of it.
