Hello, I've a problem which seems similar. Since a few time (maybe a
month and a half, it's the last time I tried compiz) I can't activate
desktop effects anymore on my desktop (it seems since Xorg 1.6), whereas
they work on Intrepid, worked before and jockey tells me that "nvidia"
(nvidia-glx-180) is activated. When I launch compiz in a terminal, I got
:

nico...@black-angel:~$ compiz --replace
Checking for Xgl: not present.
xset q doesn't reveal the location of the log file. Using fallback
/var/log/Xorg.0.log
No whitelisted driver found
aborting and using fallback: /usr/bin/metacity

Whereas it is marked as enabled in jockey... I've a nvidia 8600 GT, and
the lspci command with the some pipe gave me :

nico...@black-angel:~$ lspci -vv | grep "nvidia"
        Kernel driver in use: nvidia
        Kernel modules: nvidiafb, nvidia

that means that it is in use... and nvidia xserver settings tool is the
only one telling me that nvidia driver is not in use... what is the
problem ?

Have a nice week end.
