Public bug reported:

At the end of what became a successful install, computer went to tty1
and spammed "must be root to perform this action" It eventually ejected
the cd and said to press enter after disc was removed. removed disc, and
pressed enter. spammed same message "must be root" then locked up
without turning off.

At startup I used the "install Ubuntu" option, but changed kernel
options at the end. I replaced "quiet splash --" with "vga=ask" and then
picked "0x0347 1600x1200x16". Maybe it would not have hung with the
shutdown splash, but it should not have hard locked.
