Public bug reported:
I downloaded Ubuntu 9.04 alpha 4 to see what it is like but ran into a problem. I posted the message below"Ask a question! section and got told that I should have posted the question/bug report here. I don't know whether this is a bug in 9.04 alpha 4 or not - I didn't have this problem with 9.04 alpha 3. This is what I posted:- "I have installed Ubuntu 9.04 on an old computer that was a dual boot Windows XP and Ubuntu 8.10 and have also installed it on a USB memory stick If I boot the computer using the memory stick I can connect to the internet with no trouble at all. If I boot the same (dual boot) machine which now has Ubuntu 9.04 I cannot connect to the internet. The memory stick and the computer have identical versions of 9.04 so I am at a loss as to why the computer will connect when I use the memory stick but won't when I boot it from its hard drive. I connect to the internet via an ADSL modem which is connected to the ethernet port on the computer and is described in 'Network Connections' as 'eth0 with the word "Never" after it. The network adapter is an NVIDIA nForce networking controller. "System/Preferences/network Connections" and "System/Administration/Network Tools" have the same settings when the computer is booted with the memory stick or when it is booted from its hard drive. Holding the mouse pointer over the network manager icon brings up the message "Wired Network Connection Auto eth0 active" when the computer is booted from the memory stick, but when it is booted from the hard drive the same procedure gives the message "No network connection". At one point it was saying "The network has been disconnected". As the computer hardware seems to be OK the problem seems to lie somewhere in Ubuntu. Can anyone help me find where the problem is?" Perhaps I should remove version 9.04 alpha 4 and wait until the final version? ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Problem connecting to internet with Ubuntu 9.04 alpha4 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/336216 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
