Hello Lean, I tested with the live CD form Jaunty and then the laptop starts. However when I use the lice CD for Ubuntu 8.10 the laptop also starts.
When I wait quit a long time on the message that the system is waiting for the root file system, in the end a message is shown and the system drops into a really limited shell with a message saying "Gave up waiting for root device". So there might be some problem for the newer kernels to communicate with the hard drive. Which would explain why starting from the live CD goes without problem. Is there a way to install the newer jaunty kernel - without doing a full upgrade to this Alpha OS version now? Then I can test the newer kernel on the hard drive. Kind regards, Ronald From: Leann Ogasawara <leann.ogasaw...@canonical.com> To: ron...@portier.eu Date: 23-02-2009 22:45 Subject: [Bug 330788] Re: Newer kernels on thinkpad laptop do not boot Hi Ronald, What happens if you don't pass any kernel parameters when you try to boot (ie remove the "notsc" and "clocksource=hpet" options). Also, care to test the latest pre-release for Jaunty 9.04 (currently Alpha 4). It contains a newer 2.6.28 based kernel and it would be good to know if this issue still exists. You should be able to test booting with a LiveCD - http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/jaunty/ . Please let us know your results.
