I have the same problem. Adding a widget to the Desktop does not work and causes plasma to freeze.
I'm a newbie to linux, but I always tried not to inclued "risky" repos to the list. I just did the regular updates suggested by adept. after I (accidentally) upgraded to kde 4.2 the problem began.
