Thank you for your time reporting this problem.
It looks like it's not a bug in b43-fwcutter, but internet connection problem
First please try to :
ping downloads.openwrt.org
If it's alive, please reinstall b43-fwcutter:
sudo apt-get install --reinstall b43-fwcutter
I'm converting this to a question, as it is not really a bug
