I believe Ubuntu Hardy shipped with Dell Mini 9 is also affected by this bug (it uses autologin), at least it is after latest upgrades. As far as I can tell it worked fine before the upgrades so it could be fixed reverting the change that introduced it, I don't know but maybe it would be easier than going through a SRU to backport upstream patches.
