I have seen hibernate fails to work when the swap partition has been changed. I have cloned my partition with Ubuntu to a new HD, wich already had a swappartition. Ubuntu din't see the swappartition, and also hibernate didn't work anymore.
I think it's usefull when Ubuntu doesn have a swappartition, it scans all the HD's, reports wich one has a usable swap partition, and gives the option to use it for swap and hibernate.
