I now tested in a virtual machine that apt-get dist-upgrade worked pretty fine for me for 8.04 LTS -> 8.10 (only some f-spot error at the end, and even it got solved by doing yet another apt-get dist-upgrade), which means someone experiencing this problem could try this solution. I still can't reproduce it myself even though I installed support for ca. 10 languages before upgrading (including Hebrew, Chinese, German and a few others).
Attached is ooo-voikko-repository.tar, which you should unpack on a 8.04 LTS (Dell) installation with the following command (note that it is not "standard" tar command, 'P' means it unpacks to the / directory even when doing the command from user's home directory): sudo tar xvfP ooo-voikko-repository.tar It unpacks a local additional repository with the 2.2-4ubuntu1 version of openoffice.org-voikko and adds a relevant line to /etc/apt/sources.list. The sources.list also has 8.10 (intrepid) repositories, so you should be now able to test the 8.04 LTS -> 8.10 upgrade with: sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get dist-upgrade (at the end, repeat those commands once more to test you have indeed upgraded about everything) If you don't get any error with openoffice.org-voikko, similar to me, I'd guess it proves the 2.2-4ubuntu1 version solves the problem and could be considered as a stable release upgrade for 8.10. To make sure, you could do the dist-upgrade _without_ the 2.2-4ubuntu1 version of openoffice.org-voikko and see if you encounter the same error as with Update Manager or not. You probably should encounter it in this case. Regarding Ubuntu 9.04, this potential problem is hopefully soon fixed as I updated the packaging in Debian removing Pre-Depends and made a sync request of it to Ubuntu. When it gets to Ubuntu, I will mark this bug as "Fix Released", but the consideration of Ubuntu 8.10 update should be done by testing as described above and then using the "Nominate for release" to nominate the 2.2-4ubuntu1 for 8.10.
