On one of the other virtual terminals (that you can get to via ctrl-alt-f1, or f2 etc) the errors are normally visible. If you have no other mechanism a digital camera shot of a screen full of IO errors is fine. If they are scrolling past you may be able to pause them with a ctrl-s
