This bug is NOT a duplicate of 261573. It has nothing to do with apple
keyboards, or custom third level choosers. This bug applies to a
standard british keyboard, and probably all other layouts too.

This bug is to do with the COMPOSE key set in gnome to allow, for
example, non-german keyboard to type german characters, such as ä, ö, ü,
ß etc. as well as accented characters from any other language.
