Okay. The new kernel installed today. It did not update menu.lst in /boot/grub, however, I had to do that by hand. This is what I have in /boot/grub/menu.list (to check to see if it is right):
title Ubuntu, kernel 2.6.20-2-generic root (hd0,0) kernel /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.20-2-genericroot=UUID=45dd5d51-d66a-4a3b-bd21-146fe0ebfdf4 ro quiet splash initrd /boot/initrd.img-2.6.20-2-generic quiet savedefault output of "uname -r": 2.6.20-2-generic I updated menu.lst, rebooted, confirmed that it was running the newest kernel, then retested. No change in suspend behavior at all. Like before, I can suspend (in this case, using the "log out" menu, and selecting "Suspend"). Computer will suspend correctly (it seems). Upon waking, the CD drive spins up, the harddrive light goes on for about 20 seconds, and then nothing. The backlight does not come on. I have to "hard shut off", by holding the power button down for a few seconds.
