I can confirm that bug. In my case it occurs both on GUI installer and on text-mode installer. On GUI I have exactly the same error message. I'ts probably not the matter of free disc space because there is still about 500mb of free space after the failed installation. I was installing Xubuntu on 2,5GB disc.
