This is not specific to a printer type, just related to those printers/scanners which require a HP plugin (see http://hplipopensource.com/hplip-web/plugin.html )
I have the same problem with (the more recent) hplip 2.8.12 on Fedora 10 with my HP Color LaserJet CM1015 MFP. hp-setup downloads: http://www.linuxprinting.org/download/printdriver/auxfiles/HP/plugins/hplip-2.8.12-plugin.run It aborts; during manual install the following error is produced: ./hplip-2.8.12-plugin.run: line 369: ./hplip-plugin-install: Permission denied (even when run as root, which is required by the script) When the --keep parameter is used for the script (manual install) it apparently installs, but xsane 0.996 reports "Error during device I/O" when it tries to connect to the scanner. -- hplip-gui can not install plugin for HP LaserJet 1020 under 8.10 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/302627 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
