Had a look at bug 315809 and by mistake subscribed to it. Unless this is a consequence of the incomplete install bug, this is an old bug that has been overlooked. My symptoms are master controller muted and volume turned right down. The other problems I checked all seemed to have problems with the sound interface, while all I have to do is to reset the mixer to the proper values.
Suspect sound is turned off while sound software is updated to prevent sound problems, however it should restore the mixer settings when finished. In my case sound was left turned down and muted. This would lead many to assume the latest update had broken the sound, and accuse the wrong element of the sound system of failing. Has happened with all recent Jaunty sound updates, at least four. In Hardy I had no sound. Thought I needed special drivers or some such, and did not bother to look for a fix. It was fixed when I installed a game program. Updates had no effect. -- Updates mute sound https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/329994 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
