I could not remotely log into X on Ubuntu with Cygwin until I shut down the Windows XP firewall. I have not changed /etc/hosts in any way.
Suse works fine with the firewall in its normal state so it is clearly a difference in the way Ubuntu sets up X that is causing the remote login problem. I suspect a port or protocol change is causing the problem. To my mind Edgy Eft is not as stable as I would like, it looses my mouse occasionally and my network connection is a bit flaky (Gigabit network connections are still apparently a little unstable). Suse on the other hand has been as stable as a rock. Thanks for the help, I would never have tried the firewall without it! -- gnome-settings-daemon crashes at login https://launchpad.net/bugs/61381 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
