I need to investigate further as the file in question is big enough (74mb) that I am not sure what happened - several hours later I discovered the file was printing on the Laserjet 4L. No indication up until the point that it started printing that there was an impending print job. I've been insanely busy at work and this issue entirely slipped my mind. I will try with a smaller file. The printer in question is a Deskjet 9800 with the HP printer software installed. (Ubuntu repository version, not HP site) The Deskjet never printed, although it was the original printer selected, and on a retry the 4L was selected.
