A person from ubunusers.de had this: IO port probe 0x100-0x3af:_ during installation process using the 8.10 Live-CD. This seems 2be related to his PCMCIA
Then on giving another try using the Alternate CD (Kernel 2.6.27-7) he just pressed F2, and entered into the Terminal: rm /lib/modules/2.6.27-7-generic/kernel/drivers/pcmcia/yenta_socket.ko Installation worked with Charm & Ubuntu is running. Don't believe his PCMCIA is working he just won't need it.
