To continue, I think I may have found the problem. I tried downloading the live desktop 32 bit ISO from different mirrors and burning a copy on my DVD/CD burner and each time it reported 3 errors. Trying to run it gave me the same errors as I reported above for the 64 bit CD. I downloaded the same ISO to my laptop which successfully runs Ubuntu bit 8.04 and it burned the image with no reported errors. I put the disc in the DVD/CD burner on the desktop and it again reported 3 errors. I transferred the disc the CD-ROM and it reported no errors. The disc played fine on that drive and I am using the live CD right now to report this in Firefox. The problem is the DVD burner.
