I had a similar issue on a LiveCD burnt with Debian Lenny -- it gave the
Buffer I/O errors on sr0 when booting the LiveCD. I thought initially it
was a kernel issue with Ubuntu 8.10. Writing/Reading a DVD did not give
the errors, nor writing the iso image onto a USB stick. Following the
instructions in http://www.troubleshooters.com/linux/coasterless.htm I
burnt another CD with the same iso image. This CD did not have the
buffer I/O sr0 errors. So, it's possible that adding the "padsize",
"-pad", and "-dao" options to "cdrecord" solved the issue for my CD/DVD
drives. (cdrecord dev=0,0,0 speed=10 blank=fast padsize=63s -pad -dao -v
-eject)
