There were alot of reauests to add ff2 to dapper but we couldnt there would have been too many problems. ssl seems to be one of them. so we couldnt backport it. the backports are there to get new packages from devel ubuntu. the safest way to upgrade to ff2 is using https://help.ubuntu.com/community/FirefoxNewVersion also not supported . i said 3rd party repos before because that is the normal way people get it you never said what repo you got it from.
