This is happening to me in kde4.2. However, sometimes the logout happens minutes after requesting it. Even so, plasma settings are lost. I can't currently save plasma settings at all; even when logout works, plasma settings are lost.
Not 100% repeatable, since I have other computer where this doesn't happen.
