Sorry, I shouldn't have suggested that, it is obviously not related,
just appears that there are problems around the file manager possibly, I
am jumping before I can even crawl.

File manager recognises the floppy drive and shows the floppy icon, from
there on it is exactly as I have described, remove the first paragraph
about CDROM and bug 322298, it is obviously irrelevant.

Apologies,

Jack Kemp

Subject: [Bug 324320] Re: Problem when trying to eject the first floppy, and
then after manually ejecting will no longer access drive until reboot of XUBUNTU

Thanks for reporting this bug. I seem to be having problems
understanding you. You state the floppy drive is behaving in a similar
way to the cdrom bug 322298, CDROM only recognised if a cd is in during
bootup into Xubuntu. I do not understand how the floppy reading the disk
and then not working after ejecting that disk is the same as the CDROM
drive not appearing to be recognised when you start the desktop.

** Changed in: xfce4-session (Ubuntu)

Status in “xfce4-session” source package in Ubuntu: Incomplete

Bug description:
Binary package hint: xfce4-session

I don't know if this is associated with the bug 322298 that I reported
re CDROM drive, but it would seem that the floppy drive is behaving in a
similar way.

The first time a floppy is inserted in the drive it is read and the files are
shown in File-manager, it is also possible to write to the floppy.
When the eject command is used from the right click on the icon an error
message window appears UNABLE TO EJECT "FLOPPY DRIVE" eject unable to eject,
last error: invalid argument.
After manual ejecting the floppy and re-inserting or inserting a different disc
it fails to mount and File manager window either shows the files from the
previous floppy or none at all.

After re-booting it is OK again for the first mount but then the process
is repeated.

System information is the same as bug 322298.

Sorry if this is identified else where but as new to all this is a
little difficult to grasp all the different variants packages etc.

Have successfully managed to solve my power-off shutdown problem by
reading many Q/As and implemented ACPI=Force in the boot up process (
Boot options from CU documents)

PS had the floppy problem before changing the boot up!
