Chris, the page you mentioned (http://k.dieplz.net/evolution/2008/11/22 /wlan-in-ubuntu-8-10-on-new-msi-wind-u100/) is related to WiFi card (RTL8187SE), not Ethernet (RTL8101E/RTL8102E, supposed driver r8169).
