Thanks for checking up on this! The issue appears to have been resolved for me at least in 8.10 x64. I haven't had this problem for the last few months. I'm assuming that one of the early updates fixed whatever was causing the crash.
8.10 has been working so well for me that I haven't been tempted to try Jaunty yet, but I will download the latest 9.04 alpha release and see what happens.
