A recent fresh install of Ubuntu 8.10 has caused the bug to be less frequent, but it's still there. Mouse gestures worked for me on my previous install. Also, I purchased a new MS mouse when I reinstalled, perhaps that has something to do with the less frequent appearance of the bug?
