Mike, do you possibly have a way of testing the HDMI output on your
system, i.e do you have a TV or other device to connect an HDMI cable
from your computer to the TV etc so sound can be tested?

If so, could you please try the to play an audio file through it? You
can do so as follows: Open a terminal, and run this command: "aplay -d
plughw:HDMI /usr/share/sounds/question.wav"

Then let me know if you get any errors, or hear any sound output. I also
suggest you try this without any options added to /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-
base, as I suggested in my last post.
