exactly the same on my PC with 8.10_x32, except that it does not freeze the whole desktop, just sypaptic freezes. Every time I want to change something in the preferences, synaptic freezes. I have to kill it then. The problem can be reproduced, with the same results all the time. Otherwise, synaptic works as it should. On another PC in the house, the problem does not occur.
