I downloaded the source package, the "03_gimp.desktop.in.in.patch" changes the 'Name' entry of the desktop file to "GIMP Image Editor", but the upstream translation catalogs don't have that string, only in launchpad translations. I'm not sure how this should be handled, but I think if we are going to change upstream sources this way, then we should be using launchpad translations at build time too, not just languages packs. It is not acceptable in many languages, especially those who use a totally different writing system like Arabic, to have English menu entries, it also gives a false impression that GIMP isn't translated, which affects the overall user experience.
