I cannot tell if this bug is actually related to "fglrx", or specific to "totem-xine", or even related to 3D acceleration or Compiz, since I experience the same symptoms with a plain 2D card and no 3D affects.
My card is VIA S3 Unichrome Pro IGP, which uses the "openchrome" driver. I didn't test this, or I don't remember, if it worked with the "via" driver included in releases before 8.04. Basically: tvtime and totem don't work at the same time. 1. Open a terminal 2. Run "totem-gstreamer &" (some people use "totem-xine" instead) 3. You don't need to play anything, just leave the totem window open. 4. Run "tvtime". This is the result: Running tvtime 1.0.2. Reading configuration from /etc/tvtime/tvtime.xml Reading configuration from /home/user/.tvtime/tvtime.xml xvoutput: No YUY2 XVIDEO port available. *** tvtime requires a hardware YUY2 overlay. One is supported *** by your driver, but we could not grab it. It is likely *** being used by another application, either another tvtime *** instance or a media player. Please shut down this other *** application and try tvtime again. It seems that totem is already using some resource that is needed by tvtime. The bug, I think, is that this resource is being used without anything being played. I just have totem open but nothing is currently playing, so why should it be using the YUY2 overlay? Try this instead: 1. Open a terminal 2. Run "tvtime &" 3. Run "totem-gstreamer" (try with totem-xine if you want) 4. This is the result: it works! So in my case, it fails if totem is opened first, but it works if it's opened second. In my view, this is a problem with totem, not tvtime, however I do not see a similar bug report in totem, except bug #13982 which was fixed in Hoary. What needs to be added to tvtime, is a dialogue that gives the error message "*** tvtime requires a hardware YUY2 overlay... etc". Currently the error is displayed in the terminal, but if totem is already open and tvtime is run from the Applications menu, tvtime closes immediately without any message. --------------------------------------------------- For reference: Ubuntu 8.10 (Intrepid Ibex) totem-gstreamer: 2.24.3-0ubuntu1 tvtime: 1.0.2-0.3ubuntu2 My motherboard is the VIA-based Biostar K8M800-M7A, with K8M800 northbridge and VT8237 southbridge, using the "snd-via82xx" kernel module. My video card is VIA S3 Unichrome Pro, from the K8M800 chipset, using the "openchrome" driver, with the "XaaNoImageWriteRect" fix, described in bug #274340. This bug is fixed now, but I'm still using the openchrome driver provided with 8.10. My DRI is enabled, but that doesn't mean 3D works. My TV card is ENLTV-FM Rev. 3.0, which has the "Philips Semiconductors SAA7130 Video Broadcast Decoder (rev 01)" and uses the "saa7134" and "saa7134_alsa" kernel modules. -- [hardy] tvtime won't show anything with fglrx https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/210132 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
