An update to my situation on the MSI Wind: I was wrong when I said "out of the box". I had modified the virtual screen size (Virtual in SubSection Display in xorg.conf) because I had a large external monitor, but the issue manifested even though the external monitor was not activated. Removing the Virtual entry makes the issue disappear.
