I have this same problem. when i tried to run sudo dpkg --configure -a it asked me for a password, but i couldn't enter text!
I was updating (update manager) when my computer froze before i got the error. -- E: dpkg was interrupted, you must manually run 'dpkg --configure -a' to correct the problem.
