Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. You reported this bug a while ago and there hasn't been
any activity in it recently.

On my machine (Dell Inspiron 700m) I'm not noticing much of a difference
playing with this setting.  That being said, the current version of
Ubuntu allows some font rendering adjustments under System - Preferences
- Appearances.  I find I get a better look by turning on sub-pixel
rendering [which sets slight hinting] (which is not the default, I
believe the default is Gray Scale - Medium Hinting) but I'm don't
remember the reason why this is not on by default (for LCDs)

We were wondering if this is still an issue for you. Can you try with
the latest Ubuntu release? Thanks in advance.
