The report was related to ubuntu 8.10. After the report i tried to disable compiz and clean up xorg.conf with no effect. I found later that the problem was related to nvidia closed source driver. So i swithced to nv driver but performance was subminimal. Now i change my nvidia 8600 with an old ATI X800 and all is perfect with free open source driver (2d and 3d acceleration) and obviusly there is no more the problem in firefox.
